The American Civil War at the Jalopy Theater

The full American Civil War series is now on display at the Jalopy Theater here in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The show will be up until the end of January. Jalopy is located at 315 Columbia Street, between Hamilton Avenue and Woodhull Street.

Here are a couple photos of the installation:

Johnny Cash

When Alex Battles asked me to do a big ol’ painting of Johnny Cash for the upcoming annual Johnny Cash Birthday Bash, all I could say was HELL YES. Not only is this annual show one of the best parties of the year, but you haven’t lived until you’ve seen the Whisky Rebellion tear through “Big River”.

I had a big roll of canvas that was the perfect size for this backdrop, which is a whopping 107″ wide by 70″ tall:

I can’t begin to say how much fun I had with this. The work went quickly and methodically, with a minimum of hair-pulling. I completed the entire thing in seven days.

I’m also going to be selling prints at the shows:

I did a limited edition of 50. Each print is 16″x20″, signed and numbered. If you want one, but can’t make the shows, email me and I will hook you up.

Show coming up!

I’m happy to join the nice folks at ContaminateNYC for their CNYC Outbreak initiative in Gowanus by having a show of a bunch of my work at the fabulous Root Hill Cafe. A wine tasting! do you hear me, a wine tasting!

Here are the details, copied from their web site–they will also be publishing a (surely frightening) video interview with me. I’ll post that when it’s ready.

Opening Reception: Oct. 7th, Thursday – 7:00pm – 10:00pm

Ongoing Exhibition: Oct. 7th – Nov. 1st

Wine Tasting: Oct. 21th, Thursday – 7:00pm – 10:00pm

AGAST Open Studio Tour Coming Up October 2

Join me for an open studio on Saturday, October 2nd, 2010 from 12-6pm, as part of the always-awesome Annual Gowanus Artists Studios Tour (AGAST).

agast.jpg

This is an annual tour of the artists’ studios in the Gowanus area, and over 150 artists will be opening their studios to the public. This will be my 5th year participating in the AGAST Tour, and it is always quite well-attended, and a whole lot of fun.

You can check out the map and see the other artists who are participating at The AGAST Web site.

So drop by and check out the new Foil Bunny, and a few small works I’ve got finished up-I’m in the building at 94 9th Street, between Smith and 2nd Avenue (about a block from the Smith/9th Street F/G subway stop).

shows and whatnot

Well, the Glitch Generation show is ending next month. If you want to come down to DUMBO and take a look at the Green Foil Bunny in person, now is your chance! The next First Thursday gallery walk will be on June 3rd. Here’s a link with a list of all the participating galleries.

And for you non-New Yorkers: I’ve also got a show coming up in September at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Indiana. I’ll be showing the afore-mentioned Green Foil Bunny as well as Mack Truck Dog in their 2010 Contemporary Realism Biennial.

More to come! I have three new paintings in the works, 2 of which are 99.99999% finished… but then again, I always say that, now don’t I?

Glitch Generation

Green Foil Bunny will be included in the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) Gallery‘s Glitch Generation show, opening February 4th, down in DUMBO. If you’re in the area, come on down and check it out!

Lock #10 gets honorable mention, and…

So Lock #10 (below) just got honorable mention in the Utrecht 60th Anniversary Juried Art Competition. You can see it here on their blog. And if that’s not cool enough, it’s also going to be featured in the January and February issues of American Artist magazine.

Party on, Wayne!
